ALMOST UNREAL | RED LOTUS LAKE | THAILAND
John Lennon’s “You may say I am a dreamer, but I am not the only one” kept repeating in my head as my dear friend Janesuda and I arrived at Lake Nong Harn in the Province of Udonthani in the North Eastern Isaan region of Thailand.
Yes, this must be it, the place where dreams begin, the creme de la creme of all travel destinations.
“I hope some day you will join us. And the world will live as one.”

Upon arrival at Udonthani airport, we organized a driver for the next morning to take us to the Talay Bua Daeng or also better known as the Red Lotus Lake, a natural wonder actually filled with pink lilies and not red lotuses, situated around 35 minutes drive from the city centre.
The driver waited for us while we were playing on the lake and took us on a little sightseeing tour before we headed back to the airport.
We barely slept that night, when our alarm clock roused us from slumber long before the sun has even risen.
So off we were with our two small wooden boats into the still dark and damp, cold early morning as we continued our dreams with eyes wide open.
Everywhere we turned, we were surrounded by pink water lilies.
It’s true, the best dreams just happen when you are awake.
Water lilies thrive in the cold, so they blossom in Thai winter from late October till mid February from sunrise till around 11:00am (even though I could have sworn they disappeared much earlier!)
As the lake is in full bloom in December, so are the visitors and the amount of tourists multiply around the holidays.
I would recommend coming to witness this natural wonder in late November or early January if your schedule allows some flexibility.
After visiting the Red Lotus Lake, we continued on to see the Ban Chiang National Museum and the Wat Pothisomporn Temple.
And look at this giant rubber duck family!
Apparently the mayor once borrowed a duck from his friend in Bangkok, and now it’s raising a whole family in Nong Prajkak!
At a Vietnamese place called VT Nam Bueng.
Missed their 7:50pm deadline to be seated?
Not to worry, they do deliveries to any airport in Thailand.
Yes, it’s that good.
“I think one of my favorite feelings is laughing with someone and realizing half way through how much you enjoy their existence”
Friendship is not a big thing. It’s a million little things.
And a million little pink lilies!
A girls weekend away is so valuable and rewarding.
Don’t get me wrong, boys are lovely, but sometimes all you need is to be silly, laugh all day without a stop and without a reason with your girlfriend.
